Connect MetaTrader 4 or 5

Add an MT4/MT5 login, find the exact server name, and fix the connection errors that actually happen.

Add the account

    Open Trading Accounts

    Then Add Account, and choose MetaTrader 5 (or 4).

    Enter login, password and server

    The login is the numeric account id, not your broker portal email.

    Leave the endpoint blank

    PipSync then provisions a dedicated terminal for this account. Only fill it in if you run your own terminal and know the endpoint.

    Save and wait for the first sync

    Balance, equity and open positions appear when the login succeeds.

Finding the exact server name

This is where most connections fail. The server name must match character for character, including the dash and the suffix.

  • In the MT5 desktop terminal: File → Login to Trade Account — the server is in the dropdown.
  • In the mobile app: Settings → the account entry shows the server underneath the login number.
  • In your broker's welcome email, next to the login and password.

Master vs investor password

PasswordWhat PipSync can do
Master (trading)Read the account and place, modify and close orders. Required for automated execution.
Investor (read-only)Read balance, equity and positions. No orders. Use it if you only want monitoring.
Neither password allows withdrawals — MT4/MT5 has no withdrawal API. Money movement stays entirely inside your broker portal.

Symbol naming

Brokers rename instruments constantly. Signals say GOLD, your broker calls it XAUUSD.raw, and the order gets rejected as unknown symbol.

  • Check the exact spelling in the terminal's Market Watch, with all symbols shown.
  • Add a symbol mapping on the channel so incoming names are translated before routing.
  • Suffixed variants (.m, .raw, .ecn, micro) are different symbols with different contract sizes — verify sizing after mapping.

Common errors

Invalid account / login failedWrong server name, or the login belongs to the demo server and you selected live.
Connection drops nightlyBroker maintenance window. It reconnects automatically; check whether trades were missed.
Trade context busyTwo systems trading the same login. Run PipSync on its own account.
Orders rejected as invalid volumeLot size below the broker minimum or off the step size. Raise risk per trade or use a micro account.
AutoTrading disabledAlgo trading is off in the terminal or the account is set to close-only by the broker.
