How to connect your MT5 account

Login, password and the exact server name — plus what to do when it fails.

What you need

  • The numeric login (account number), not your broker portal email.
  • The master password. The investor password works too, but read-only — no orders.
  • The server name, character for character.

Steps

  1. Trading Accounts → Add Account → MetaTrader 5.
  2. Enter login, password and server.
  3. Leave the endpoint field blank — PipSync then provisions a dedicated terminal for this account. Only fill it in if you run your own terminal.
  4. Save and wait for the first sync. Balance, equity and open positions appearing is your proof the login worked.

The server name is the usual culprit

It must match exactly, including the dash and any suffix:

ICMarketsSC-Live17 correct — exactly as the terminal shows it
ICMarkets-Live17 wrong — shortened
icmarketssc-live17 wrong — lowercased
ICMarketsSC-Demo wrong — demo server for a live login

Find it in the MT5 desktop terminal under File → Login to Trade Account, in the mobile app under the account entry, or in your broker's welcome email.

A live login on a demo server fails with the same error as a wrong password. Check both before assuming the password is wrong.

More detail: Connect MetaTrader 4 or 5.
