Finding your exact MT5 server name

Three places it is written down, and the mistakes that look like a wrong password.

PipSync needs the server string your broker publishes, not a friendly name. MT5 matches server names exactly — capitals, spaces and dashes all matter.

Where to find it

  1. MT5 desktop — File → Login to Trade Account. The server dropdown shows the exact string. (Tools → Options → Server also shows it; that is the path PipSync prints under the MT5 Server field.)
  2. MT5 mobile — Settings, then your account entry. The server sits under the login number.
  3. Broker welcome email — usually printed next to the login and password.

Entering it in PipSync

Type it into MT5 Server in the Add Trading Account dialog (Trading Accounts → Add account → Broker Type MetaTrader 5). PipSync suggests common server names as you type, but accepts any name — a suggestion is not a check that the server exists. Names can contain letters, digits, spaces and - _ ., up to 64 characters; spaces at the very start or end are removed for you.

Mistakes that make the login fail

  • Dropping part of the name (ICMarkets-Live17 instead of ICMarketsSC-Live17).
  • Lowercasing it.
  • Using the demo server for a live login, or the reverse.
  • Dropping or adding a space inside the name — some brokers' server names contain one. Copy it exactly.

PipSync reports a wrong server as a provisioning failure. Depending on timing you see a message such as "unknown_broker_server: could not resolve MT5 server …" (the name does not exist) or "MT5 login verification failed for server … Check the login, password, and exact server name" (the name exists but the login was refused), or only the note "No terminal was provisioned. Retry to fix it." on the account card.

Brokers with many servers

Larger brokers run several live servers, and your account only exists on one. Live, Live2 and Live17 are different servers — picking the wrong one fails exactly like a wrong password: it gives the same "login verification failed" message.

Fixing a wrong server name

There is no edit form for an account's server, and Retry provisioning reuses the saved server. Delete the account (trash icon on the account card — this also removes its channel links, trade history stays), add it again with the right server, then link it to your channel again.

If MetaTrader itself cannot log in with the same three values, the problem is at the broker, not in PipSync.
