Connect MetaTrader 5
Add an MT5 login, find the exact server name, and fix the connection errors that actually happen.
Add the account
- 1
Open Trading Accounts
Then Add account, and set Broker Type to MetaTrader 5. MetaTrader 4 is listed but greyed out — it is not connectable yet.
- 2
Enter login, master password and server
Fill MT5 Login (the numeric account id, not your broker portal email), MT5 Server and MT5 Password (for provisioning). Use the master (trading) password.
- 3
Leave the endpoint blank
PipSync then provisions a dedicated terminal for this account. Only fill it in if you run your own terminal and know the endpoint.
- 4
Create the account and wait for the first sync
Click Create Account. Provisioning the terminal can take a few minutes; balance, equity and open positions appear when the login succeeds.
Finding the exact server name
This is where most connections fail. The server name must match character for character, including the dash and the suffix.
- In the MT5 desktop terminal: File → Login to Trade Account — the server is in the dropdown.
- In the mobile app: Settings → the account entry shows the server underneath the login number.
- In your broker's welcome email, next to the login and password.

Master vs investor password
| Password | What PipSync can do |
|---|---|
| Master (trading) | Read the account and place, modify and close orders. Required for automated execution. |
| Investor (read-only) | Connects and shows balance, equity and positions, but the broker rejects every order. PipSync has no monitoring-only mode, so do not use it. |
Symbol naming
Brokers rename instruments constantly. Signals say GOLD, your broker calls it XAUUSD.raw, and the order gets rejected as unknown symbol.
- Check the exact spelling in the terminal's Market Watch, with all symbols shown.
- Map it on the channel: Channels → your channel → Settings tab → Auto-trade panel → Symbol mapping, for example GOLD → XAUUSD.raw. Only the mapped name is sent. If the channel trades at several brokers that spell the instrument differently, message us in the support chat and we add an override per broker.
- Your broker has no equivalent at all? Put the instrument on the channel's Blocked symbols (Signal filters, same panel): its signals are saved as rejected instead of failing at the broker.
- Suffixed variants (.m, .raw, .ecn, micro) are different symbols with different contract sizes — verify sizing once it trades.
Common errors
| Symptom | Usual cause |
|---|---|
| Invalid account / login failed | Wrong server name, or the login belongs to the demo server and you selected live. |
| Connection drops nightly | Broker maintenance window. It reconnects automatically; check whether trades were missed. |
| Trade context busy | Two systems trading the same login. Run PipSync on its own account. |
| Orders rejected as invalid volume | Lot size below the broker minimum or off the step size. Raise risk per trade or use a micro account. |
| AutoTrading disabled by client (retcode 10027) | The Algo Trading button in the MT5 terminal is off. Switch it on in the terminal. |
| AutoTrading disabled by server (retcode 10026) | The broker's server has turned off automated trading for the account. The terminal's button cannot change this: ask your broker to allow it. |
| Close only (retcode 10044) | The broker only allows closing positions on that symbol, so new orders are refused. Ask your broker about the symbol's trading status. |
