Connecting a prop-firm or challenge account

Same connection as any broker. Different risk configuration — and check the firm's rules first.

Prop firms hand you a normal platform login — MetaTrader, cTrader or Match-Trader. Connect it exactly like any other account. What changes is the risk configuration.

Check your firm's rules on automated execution and copy trading before you start. Some allow it outright, some ban copying the same signals as other funded traders. Being right about the software does not help if the payout is refused.

Map their rules onto your settings

Firm ruleSet this

Total drawdownMax total drawdown, again with headroom
Max position sizeMax lot size per trade
News or weekend restrictionsTrading-hours window and news blackout on every linked channel
Consistency ruleLower risk per trade, so no single day dominates

Why the headroom

The firm measures on their server, in their timezone, including swap and commission. You measure on yours. Those numbers are never identical, and the gap is widest exactly when the market moves fastest. A breach at your limit is a pause; a breach at theirs is a dead account.

Set your daily reset time to the firm's server reset, not your local midnight. Floating loss counts at most firms, so a position left open across the reset can breach the next day before you wake up.
